Utah Summer Fishing In April

We had an exciting day on the river yesterday. Normally at this time of year fishermen in Utah are trying to avoid the winter run off and thinking about fishing reservoirs as the ice melts off. But with the weird Utah winter and weather lately we already were wet wadding and fishing caddis flies and hoppers. Makes me really excited for the months to come.

Fish of the day

My older brother Jon has been fishing on the Utah Colorado border in Southern Utah. Putting in some work to find lost creeks and fishing in areas you wouldn't think would hold water let alone fish. He's found a few good little spots. Last Wednesday he had close to a triple digit day. With most fish ranging from 10-15 inches he couldn't have been any happier. This Rainbow stood out because of all the colors. He figured it was a spawner. After paying attention to the gravel beds and small runs he noticed there were lots of larger rainbows holding. So from then on he wadded with caution and left them alone. Still to catch plenty of fish in the deeper pools while not bothering the spawners.

First of many fishing trips to Wyoming this summer!

Our first trip up to the Green River in Wyoming wasn't the most successful fishing trip we have ever had. But it was a valuable trip non the less. New friends were made, Wyoming fishing licenses were bought and fishing tips were shared. In all we had a great time and are talking about the next adventure up North. Here's a few photos from our quick 36 hour trip. Day one we floated the Green River.

Day Two we hit up Ham's Fork. We heard of people pulling 20"+ bows out of it. Had to give it a shot!

Under Water Video Of A Dry Fly Take.

This catch was a pretty cool because how tight the trees were behind us and how we were able to sneak up on a feeding Brook Trout and film it take a dry fly. Bryan had the Go Pro in the water to watch it feed. I then went for a bow and arrow type cast over Bryan's shoulder. We couldn't have planned it any better. First try I landed the Blue Wing about 2 feet in front of the fish. On the first pass the fish hit it. I set the hook and Bryan with camera in hand released it. [vimeo 40032883 w=500 h=281]

Fly Fishing Marathon

A few of the Brighton Anglers had a marathon day of fishing. It started off hitting up Jordanelle Reservoir at 7am then after lunch we headed to the Provo River to catch up with Mouse and Isla. The fishing was good at both spots. What we found to work best at Jordanelle was a ginger wooly bugger with an intermediate sink line. The flow on the river has gone up a bit. We couldn't get anything on top but Mouse and Jared hooked in to some fish with bead headed prince nymphs. The day ended heading back at Jordanelle to fish  during the sunset. Overall a really fun day!
